This is amazing. I absolutely, completely, totally love it. The colours are so perfect, blending together and just giving you the phisical sensation of actually being there, of a slow and lazy summer evening (?). The pose of the rider, you feel his weariness. The most stunning this is probably the rainbow flag - the colors are so vibrant, they just catch your eye and pop out of the image. I love it.
ohh so sad, but beautiful work, stunning detail, elegantly drawing us deeper and deeper till that moment of realisation that all has fallen, his quest so long that there is nothing to return to. A wonderful picture that speaks a thousand words.
I wish people would stop using the rainbow as a symbol for homosexuality - Im straight and I FUCKING LOVE COLORS! wtf is wrong with people who dont like rainbow colors? seriously, whats wrong with those people? rainbow colors does not and shouold not mean gay
Considering the painting is illustrating a scene from A Dance With Dragons, and has nothing to do with Renly at all... (I don't want to put spoilers here in case you haven't read the books. Though if you have, that's "Reek" at Moat Cailin.)
Also, while GRRM did say he intended Renly to be gay, he also said the Rainbow Guard was not supposed to be a clue, it was just a coincidence. (He was kind of oblivious to gay symbols at the time.) He intended the Guard to be a contrast to the white cloaks of the usual Kingsguard and the black of the Night's Watch, using the religious symbolism of the Faith of the Seven.
Rainbow is one of the symbols of the Faith of the Seven (because of the seven colors - the priests also use crystals on their belts and crowns and such). That's a flag of peace, the Westeros equivalent of our white flag.
Nope, the rainbow flag is the flag or peace in the ASOIF universe. Like how we would think of a white flag. I am pretty sure that this is a scene from Dance, where the new Reek rides into Moat Cailin to offer terms to the Ironborn.
